When God leads us through dry places.
Apr 29, 2024What do you do when your brook runs dry?
Don't be surprised when God directs you to someone else who is running on empty.
When it's God ordained, His providence, prepare for His multiplication.
That's what happened to God's prophet Elijah.
God had used Elijah to declare a 3.5 year drought over a nation that had turned against Him. Then God sent Elijah into hiding, to a remote place where Elijah was nourished by a brook and fed by ravens.
That is until the brook ran dry, and then there was no more.
God instructed Elijah to walk a hundred miles to Zarephath where God said a widow would take care of him. The only thing was when he finally met the widow, she was down to her last meal.
Oftentimes the way God works doesn't make a whole lot of sense to us. God took what little the widow had, and multiplied it so Elijah and the widow had an endless supply of food.
He multiplied what little they had.
Oftentimes when we follow God's instructions, they lead to a place like Zarephath, where he partners you with the unlikely.
Elijah probably thought, I just walked a hundred miles to Zarephath, and the widow that's supposed to help me is broke as a joke.
God, what's going on?
What I've learned on my faith-walk with God is that He often takes us through some dry places where our obedience will get tested. On our journey from faith to maturity, all roads pass through Zarephath.
Obedience always leads to God's blessing and favor, but you might have to go through Zarephath and work with a widow or two.
Keep walking, God will test you but He'll always reward your obedience.
