True worship isn't what most Christ-Followers think.

Aug 03, 2022

Romans 12:1-2 NIV - Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

True worship isn't what most Christ-Followers think.

It's not a 30 minute worship-set at your local gathering.

Somehow we've reduced worship to singing at church. It's more than that. And BTW - church is a people not a place. #ekklesia

The scriptures say true and proper worship is presenting yourself as a living sacrifice to God.

It's honoring your calling — what God Himself created you to do.

Here's a great view from the amplified translation.

- Therefore I urge you, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God

- To present your bodies [dedicating all of yourselves, set apart] as a living sacrifice

- Holy and well-pleasing to God, which is your rational (logical, intelligent) act of worship

- And do not be conformed to this world [any longer with its superficial values and customs]

- But be transformed and progressively changed [as you mature spiritually]

- By the renewing of your mind [focusing on godly values and ethical attitudes]

- So that you may prove [for yourselves] what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His plan and purpose for you]

Singing and praising God is wonderful. I love doing it alone on long walks, or in my pool, or singing to black gospel (Mississippi Mass Choir) at a gathering.

But true and proper worship goes beyond that. It's what we do everyday in the 100,000 plus hours we're spending in the marketplace.

- What we do with our families.
- What we do when no one is looking (except God).

It's honoring my calling — God's plan and purpose for my life, the assignment for this season.

Be a living, walking sacrifice for the Kingdom of God.
