The #1 battle every founder faces isn’t external
Dec 19, 2024The #1 battle every founder faces isn’t external
→ it’s in their mind.
When you’re building a startup
Chasing a dream
Fighting for your vision
→ you will face delays
→ difficulties
→ and dead ends
There will be moments when it feels like the odds are stacked against you, and 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗮 𝗺𝗶𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗹𝗲, you’re cooked.
The real battle isn’t just external
It’s what you allow in your head
Here’s how it happens:
👉 𝗔 𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗹𝗲 𝗱𝗼𝘂𝗯𝘁 𝘀𝗻𝗲𝗮𝗸𝘀 𝗶𝗻:
“Will I make it?”
“Am I smart enough?”
“What if I can’t land customers or investors?”
“What if I run out of cash?”
Unchallenged
𝗗𝗼𝘂𝗯𝘁 always upgrades to fear.
That’s when you start imagining worst-case scenarios, 𝗽𝗶𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗱𝗲𝗺𝗶𝘀𝗲.
𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝗳𝗲𝗮𝗿? It morphs into 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗿𝘆—a mental role-rehearsal of failure.
Unchecked worry breeds discouragement
And 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 leads to
The ultimate 𝗳𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘂𝗿𝗲: quitting
But here’s the truth: doubt, fear, and worry can’t win unless you let them.
𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗳𝗮𝗶𝘁𝗵.
For me, this is a spiritual battle.
As someone with a biblical worldview, I believe in fighting the good fight of faith (1 Timothy 6:12). And when I do, God shows up to fight the battles I can’t win on my own.
→ it’s not easy.
→ like David facing Goliath
→ we have to show up
→ we have to take courage
We have to stare those giants in the face
The battlefield is in your mind
Win there, and 𝘆𝗼𝘂’𝗹𝗹 𝘂𝗻𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗸 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲 to keep going—even when the odds look impossible.
