Is it selfish to ask God for what you want?
Jan 26, 2024Is it selfish to ask God for what you want? Or do you just ask Him for what you need?
I've always had big dreams and desires inside me. Growing up, many religious folks seemed wishy-washy on this issue. It was hard to get a straight answer.
"Well you know Gerald, God will provide what you need, but He may not give you what you want. He's sovereign you know, so we never know what He's going to do."
>> I used to think, well that's confusing!
From my earliest days growing up in poverty, I had wants. I wanted more. Sometimes I wanted ice-cream.
I had dreams and desires inside me and the question I had was, am I on my own for those wants, or was God willing to help in these areas.
At some point I got tired of all the religious opinions and I started to read the Bible, God's Word, for myself.
I found Psalm 37:4 and my prayer expectations began to change.
- Delight yourself in the Lord,
- And He will give you the desires and petitions of your heart.
That was the beginning of my faith walk. Today I don't tell God what I need, I tell Him what I want. And as a faith-driven entrepreneur, I've been experiencing His supernatural results for decades.
I've learned to pray according to His will. And His Word is His will. If it's not in there, I don't ask for it. But if it is, I want it. My faith starts where the will of God is known.
I do my part.
God does His.
As it turns out, I discovered that the dreams and desires inside me have been God-planted assignments. So He's become my business partner. I co-create with Him daily.
When Jesus said, "I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance [to the full, till it overflows]."
I believe He meant it.
Never confuse being content, with settling for less than God's best.
Let's walk and chew gum. Do both!
Have a wonderful weekend, and dream bigger.
