I was homeless the year I launched my first startup.
May 01, 2024Being poor sucks.
I know, I started out poor.
How do I define being poor in America?
- struggling to pay your bills
- living paycheck to paycheck
- no cash reserves
- living in lack
What's the opposite of being poor?
- To me it's prospering
- When things are getting better financially
- When you have money left over
- No lack
You'd be surprised at how many people are struggling financially.
There are too many content creators and solopreneurs who meet my personal definition of being poor.
The year (age 22) before I started my first startup, I was poor. In fact I was homeless.
I was a believer in Jesus Christ, but not much of a follower.
That was until I read what Jesus said in John 10:10 AMP.
>> I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance [to the full, till it overflows].
When I started reading the Bible for myself, I found that it was full of instruction on how to prosper, God's way.
This passage (Deut 15:4) always put a big smile on my face:
>> However, there need be no poor people among you, for in the land the Lord your God is giving you to possess as your inheritance, he will richly bless you.
In the Act"s church, (Acts 2:42-47 & Acts 4:32-34) the early church, the followers of Jesus helped each other and there was NO NEEDY person among them.
Fact: 70% of the American workforce want to become entrepreneurs.
They want the freedom and self-directed power to create prosperity or their personal version of success.
Make no mistake.
- Being a follower of Jesus is hard
- Being a faith-driven founder is hard
- Being an entrepreneur is hard
The road to God's prosperity runs through some dry places. We have to learn faith. We have to learn obedience.
But what you will find is IF you dedicate your life to learning God's ways of doing things, He will prosper you. It's His promise.
From 3 John 2 (AMP):
- Beloved, I pray that in every way you may succeed and prosper
- And be in good health [physically]
- Just as [I know] your soul prospers [spiritually].
If you are living in lack, here's some good news: You don't have to be po-no-mo.
Read it for yourself. Start following Jesus. You'll be amazed at where He'll take you!
