Have The Desires Of Your Heart

Psalm 37:4 NIV - Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.

I love this question and every year for the past three decades I've asked myself this question towards the end of each year as I begin to set goals for the following five years.

I paint a picture in my mind of my dreams and goals in every area of my life. In my ...

- Faith

- Purpose

- Family

- Relationships

- Business

- Finances

- Generosity

- Health

These are the desires of my heart.

My wife Leslie and I do this together every year. We love dreaming and doing together. We put our vision in writing, calculate the cost in terms of time, energy, focus, sacrifice and money. We count the cost of having what we want.

Then we start searching for biblical promises for the things we are believing and planning so we can then stand on the Word of God. We give God full editing rights, asking Him to remove anything He doesn't want us to have, and to add anything we might have missed.

When we are done, we receive it all by faith. At that moment, we have what we want according to the following biblical promise.

Hebrews 11:1 AMP - Now faith is the assurance (title deed, confirmation) of things hoped for (divinely guaranteed), and the evidence of things not seen [the conviction of their reality—faith comprehends as fact what cannot be experienced by the physical senses].

- We have the title deed

- We have the confirmation

- It is divinely guaranteed

Now I place my trust in God to manifest what I have received by faith. But I have to trust Him for His how and when. I know I'll face tests and trials and that my victory will not happen with out a faith battle.

When I was growing up, the religious types used to tell us that God will give you what you need, but not what you want. What a big fat lie. The first time I read this biblical promise it brought so much joy into my life.

Wow! This is such a simple but powerful promise. God wants to give you the desires of your heart even more than you want them. Just believe Him. I know you believe in God, but go further and believe what He promises in His Word. This promise isn't determined by your present circumstances, it's determined by your faith.

Every miracle in your life will be according to your faith. Your faith will have to accompany vision and diligence (action), but God promises and desires to give you the desires of your heart.
