Don't get comfortable with success.

Mountaintops are for views and inspiration, but fruit is grown in the valleys.

That quote from Billy Graham is so true.

One of the lessons I've learned over the past 38 years building and investing in a variety of ventures is there is very little learning on the mountaintops.

When things are going great it is TOO easy to get comfortable. Complacent.

And when we are comfortable we tend to NOT seek out the comforter with the same VIGOR of the valley.

When we are comfortable we tend to protect WHAT WE HAVE and forgo taking risks.

We tend to play it safe.

We learn less.

In business, I'd rather be number two than number one.

Number two is working harder. Number one is celebrating.

We lose our humility on the mountaintops.

It's no wonder that on the other side of every mountaintop is another valley.

The promise of Psalm 23 is our journey through the valley.

Mountaintops are momentary, but God always gives us new mountains to climb. So enjoy the view, but don't get too comfortable.
