The Life of a Dreamchaser
Apr 09, 2020Pursuing God-planted dreams.
Our mission at CanaGlobal is to equip dreamchasers to:
- Join the family of God.
- Embrace their God-planted purpose.
- Go after their God-planted dreams.
We believe your relationship and journey with God, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit will produce an abundant best life.
One of the greatest discoveries you can make when choosing to join the family of God is the immense inheritance that comes as a result of becoming a Kingdom of God heir. Your power source is the Word of God.
- The Word is God’s will for our lives.
- The Word is God’s covenant and inheritance for us.
- The Word contains 6000 plus biblical promises and truths for us on earth and in heaven.
Instead of viewing the Bible as a book of rules, when you take the time to read it you’ll begin to view it as a book of promises.
In John 10:10, Jesus tells us why He came.
The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance [to the full, till it overflows].
Being created with a God-planted purpose will produce God-planted seasons, dreams and assignments.
As your awareness of the 6000 plus Biblical promises for your journey, there are two scriptures that when connected by faith, are game-changers.
Ephesians 3:20 (AMP) — Now to Him who is able to [carry out His purpose and] do superabundantly more than all that we dare ask or think [infinitely beyond our greatest prayers, hopes, or dreams], according to His power that is at work within us.
1 John 5:14–15 (AMP) — This is the [remarkable degree of] confidence which we [as believers are entitled to] have before Him: that if we ask anything according to His will, [that is, consistent with His plan and purpose] He hears us. And if we know [for a fact, as indeed we do] that He hears and listens to us in whatever we ask, we [also] know [with settled and absolute knowledge] that we have [granted to us] the requests which we have asked from Him.
Ephesians 3:20 gives me permission to dream God-sized dreams, to take on God-sized assignments, to think big and ask big. 1 John 5:14–15 gives me the confidence to approach God, knowing that as I pursue God-planted dreams, whatever I ask for is granted to me.
This, my friend, is what’s called in the entrepreneurial space — an unfair competitive advantage!
There are two pitfalls that dream-chasers often fall into that I’d like to help you avoid, or climb out of:
- The Wrong Motives pit
- The Wrong Timing pit
Wrong Motives
As sure as the sun rises each day when you go after God-planted dreams, you will encounter unfair people and unfair circumstances.
Let’s begin with the motives pit. The DNA of your motivation is motive. As you experience unfair people and unfair circumstances, it’s easy to get a bit jaded and into contempt. Contempt produces strife, anger, unforgiveness, and fear. Fear is having faith in satan’s promises instead of God’s.
The definition of contempt is the act of despising.
Along your journey, you’ll take paths that will end in failure. Deadends. You’ll partner and trust people who betray you. Deadbeats.
If you are not content, experiencing God’s peace and joy, you’ll develop contempt. And contempt, my friend, worms its way into your true motive — that is, tainting your motivation. Your motivation, the thing that drives you will become so infested with strife, anger, unforgiveness, and fear — you’ll stall-out, finding yourself in this fear-based pit.
Proverbs 16 lays out some great promises for dream-chasers. In verse 3, we are advised to commit to the Lord whatever we do, and God will establish our plans. In verse 9, the scriptures remind us that it is God who establishes our steps.
However, vs 2 warns us:
All the ways of a man are clean and innocent in his own eyes [and he may see nothing wrong with his actions], But the Lord weighs and examines the motives and intents [of the heart and knows the truth]. Proverbs 16:2 (AMP)
James 3:16 spells out the source of tainted motives. “For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work.”
When one’s motives are infected by contempt, here’s what follows:
Blame — you’ll find people and circumstances to blame.
Conflicted — you’ll become conflicted over God’s promises and your lack of progress.
Confused — you’ll become confused about the right people and paths to trust. So much that you’ll miss out on the people and paths sent from God.
Stuck — you’ll find yourself in a pit of fear and division. Anything divided, eventually falls.
Pride is what blinds us when contempt is the culprit. We become defensive victims instead of victors.
As a mentor and coach to entrepreneurs and dream-chasers, I encounter this a lot. How do I know about the pit? I’ve fallen into it many times myself.
But before we lay out how to avoid or escape the wrong motive pit, let’s also explore the wrong timing pit.
Wrong Timing
As you pursue God-planted dreams and assignments, the excitement of pursuing the big dream can quickly diminish when God’s timing takes longer than your expectations. When it feels like God is taking way too long to fulfill His promises, and you grow tired of waiting on Him, you’ll be tempted to “help” God out with His plans.
When we become impatient, we convince ourselves that if it’s going to be, it’s up to me. That sounds good, so we take charge. We get in the driver's seat and invent a way to take matters into our own hands. After all, we can’t wait around for God to do everything for us, so we run ahead of His will.
Trust me, we’ve all done it! And instead of enjoying the fruits of God’s promises, we receive the consequences of our bad choices.
When God gives us a Kingdom-driven assignment, a dream to pursue, AND …
- Resources don’t come when we think they should, so we borrow and get in debt.
- The right people or partners don’t come when we think they should, we get unequally yoked with the wrong people — those who make lousy partners.
- The right circumstances don’t come when we think they should — so we open doors closed by God, or walk through doors not opened by God.
We say, “I’m just doing what I need to do…making things happen”. Our motive is no longer God’s timing, it’s ours.
When our motive or timing is tainted, we end up stalled out in the pit. This leads to getting bitter, not better. And worse, our pride keeps us in the pit … we literally become divided against ourselves, our worst enemy.
We go from being a promise-taker who walks by faith …
- No weapon formed against me shall prosper.
- I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
- All things are possible through Christ.
… to a promise-faker who walks by sight.
This person is already defeated, they can tell you all the reasons why they can’t, lack of this and that. They walk and talk by sight.
Time to put on your Big-Boy Pants
If this describes you, no worries, so long as you are able to humble yourself before God, He promises to come to your rescue and deliver you. Yes, even when the damage is self-inflicted!
When I mess up, the Word of God (truth) sets me free. It corrects, rebukes and encourages me to be set free.
If I have allowed my motive or timing to be tainted, it’s time to be a big-boy, admit my mistakes, forgive, apologize … stop being a victim and allow God to change me so I can become the victor He created me to be.
Even Abraham messed up!
After Noah and the flood, the new generation of people turned away from God attempting to build the Tower of Babel, to gain power for themselves. (motive)
In response, God called, appointed and anointed Abraham to raise up a new nation. God commanded Abraham to leave a place that was familiar and settle in a place that God would show him.
The command came with three promises:
- I will make you a great nation.
- I will make your name great.
- I will bless those who bless you and curse those who curse you.
Abraham was 75 and his wife Sarah 65 when they began their long faith journey. (fast forward) Once they settled in their God-appointed land, God came to Abraham in a vision. Abraham was concerned that he had no heir (son). God assured him Abraham and Sarah would have a son together, and that their offspring would be as numerous as the stars.
But after a decade of waiting, they decided “if it’s going to be … it’s up to me” and arranged for Abraham to “hook-up” with their servant Hagar. Once Hagar became pregnant, the original motive became tainted and the ladies developed contempt for one another. This led to the rise of Ishmael which many believe started the centuries-old conflict between the Israelites and the Arabs.
Do you see the pattern? Wrong Timing. Wrong Motive.
Despite their bad choices, when Abraham was around 99, Sarah finally became pregnant and gave birth to Issac.
Abraham became the patriarch of three major religions; Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Abraham experienced the fruit of God’s promises along with the consequences of his bad choices.
How to avoid, or climb out the pit.
The first thing you can do is to ask God to realign your motive with His. Make your desires match His desires. Then get out of the driver's seat. Let God drive! He knows what’s ahead. Since we can’t see around the bend, we must journey by faith, not by sight.
Know this, God’s plan for you is already established and finished (it’s already done) before the foundation of the world. Trust Him.
If you are in the pit, just repent. Ask God to put you back on the right path, back on His timetable. Ask God to establish your plans and steps. His will.
When you walk by faith instead of sight, unfair people and unfair circumstances cannot and will not stop God’s plans for you.
Keep these two scriptures handy.
John 14:26–27 (AMP) — But the Helper (Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor — Counselor, Strengthener, Standby), the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name [in My place, to represent Me and act on My behalf], He will teach you all things. And He will help you remember everything that I have told you. Peace I leave with you; My [perfect] peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be afraid. [Let My perfect peace calm you in every circumstance and give you courage and strength for every challenge.]
Nehemiah 8:10 (AMP) — Then Ezra said to them, “Go [your way], eat the rich festival food, drink the sweet drink, and send portions to him for whom nothing is prepared; for this day is holy to our Lord. And do not be worried, for the joy of the Lord is your strength and your stronghold.”
Receive God’s perfect peace. It is your source of courage and strength. While it’s a fact that you will encounter unfair people and unfair circumstances — allow God’s 6000 plus promises to be the truth of your life.
Truth Trumps Facts.
